2025 U.A.E. Conference

The WAHO 2025 Conference in Abu Dhabi was a great success, with 56 countries and some 300 people in attendance. We extend our sincere thanks to the Emirates Arabian Horse Society, to their Chairman HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to their Deputy Chairman HE Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad Al Nahyan, and to their Director General, Mr. Mohamed Alharbi for their unmatched hospitality and generosity. The WAHO World Registrars Meeting was very productive and the WAHO General Meeting covered much WAHO business in a friendly and positive manner. Everyone especially enjoyed the wide selection of offered tours and social events. A full report will follow here in due course.

The undoubted highlight for all the 2025 WAHO Abu Dhabi Conference participants was the visit to the famous Dubai Stud. We are delighted to share these two articles, words by Samantha Mattocks and photos by Sharon Meyers, to give you a detailed insight into that very special event.

Dubai Arabian Horse Stud WAHO Presentation Pt II

WAHO offers our sincere thanks to the owners, managers, handlers and staff of Dubai Stud for their extraordinary hospitality and for so graciously allowing us the privilege of this visit, and for the wonderful presentation they put on for our WAHO guests, who represented some 56 countries.  In particular, we thank Mr Mohammed Al Tawhidi, Executive Director of Dubai Stud and Mr Abdelaziz Al Marzooqi, Executive Stud Manager of Dubai Stud.  We realize that a great deal of hard work goes into planning such an extensive presentation, both in deciding which family groups to show and also in ensuring the horses themselves looked their best. We would like to extend additional thanks to Dr. Federico Jordan for his organisation and excellent commentary, to the main handlers Thomas Merlin and Dustin Weir, to the Stud Secretary Soad Badwan, and of course not forgetting all the staff and grooms behind the scenes who prepared the horses and made the presentation flow so seamlessly.

Many of our members do not follow the show circuit, but are mainly interested in breeding and pedigrees. The selection of 62 superlative mares and fillies showcasing several generations of the Dubai Stud’s 6 most successful female families was not only impressive in its depth but also illustrated an exceptional breeding programme which has deservedly brought outstanding international success.  Everyone remarked with particular pleasure on the fact that all the horses were presented in a natural way, enabling them to happily show off their Arabian beauty on their home ground.  In fact the calmness of the horses with their sympathetic handlers, and the obvious relaxed confidence of the youngsters and especially the foals, was very noticeable and much appreciated. No doubt some of them will be stars of the future. It was an extra special treat to see the extraordinarily beautiful D Shihanah, as well as superstar sire FA El Rasheem and the homebred multi-Champion D Seraj.
