RIGONA – 2006 WAHO Trophy Winner – Netherlands

RIGONA, Chestnut Mare, *1993 (Abakan / Ragonka).
Breeder: Mr. G. Struik. Owner: Mr. Luut Schutrups.
Strain: Kehaileh Rodanieh (Rodania 1869)

Bred by Mr. Struik when he himself was over 80 years of age, Rigona was bought by Mr. Schutrups, the proud owner, as a filly-foal in 1993. In 1994 she won the filly championships in the Dutch regionals and in 1996 she captured the National title as Junior Champion Mare.

Awarded ‘First Premium mare’ status a few years later by the Dutch studbook authority, she was broken to ride and then took on the task of breeding mare with very successful offspring, of which her two ‘First Premium’ daughters Kupona and Karona are still owned by Mr. Schutrups himself.

In 2005 she earned the highest studbook breeding title of ‘Elite Mare’, which she received based on the show and sport results of her progeny. Under rider Marloes Leeman she herself moved up to the “Z” level of Dutch dressage in 2006 for which she received a title-certificate in recognition of her achievements.

This impressive mare, through her own achievements and those of her progeny, is an excellent ambassador for the breed in the Netherlands. Being such a successful performer herself as a show horse, in performance under saddle and as a broodmare, it was not hard for the Dutch Registry to select Rigona to receive their 2006 WAHO Trophy!
