Moroccan 2006 Winner Maghribi

The horse chosen for this prestigious award is the young stallion Maghribi, who became National Junior Champion Stallion at the Moroccan National Show in 2006, having been Reserve Junior National Champion in 2005. His pedigree is ‘straight Egyptian’, both his parents having been imported to Morocco from USA.

LE-WARDI DANESKA Grey Mare. 1999. (Elsabad Habdan / Le-Wardi Tamara). Breeder: Mrs. Lihane M. Esterhuizen. Owner: Mr. Louis De Kock. Strain: Seglawieh Al Abd (Wadduda 1899).
The Arab Horse Breeders Society of Namibia is proud to announce that the 2006 WAHO Trophy for Namibia has been awarded to the mare Le-Wardi Daneska. This mare is one of the most highly regarded endurance horses in Namibia, at only 7 years of age she has already successfully completed 1,280 competitive kilometres in this tough sport. She is currently rated 27th on the FEI World ranking list, and 8th in Namibia.
Together with her owner, Louis de Kock, Le-Wardi Daneska has represented Namibia on their Junior Team at two International Endurance rides (against South Africa and Botswana) in 2006. Louis is also one of the Junior riders chosen for the Namibian Team to participate in the World Endurance Championships in 2007 in Argentina.
Le-Wardi Daneska’s successes since late 2005 include four wins and four high placings from eight rides, two of those competitions were 80 km events and the rest were over distances ranging from 100km to 127 km. Most importantly, she also achieved the Best Conditioned Horse Award at seven of those eight events.
The Arab Horse Breeders Society of Namibia considers that Le-Wardi Daneska is a remarkable Arabian and an excellent ambassador for the breed, As she is still young the Namibian Endurance Team hope that she will continue to represent her country for many years to come.

NGAPA JOUSSIF Grey stallion. 1977. (Grey Swirl / Ngapa Maid). Breeder: Owners: Linda & Stuart Cottle, Delight Arab Horse Stud. Strain: Dahman Um Amr of Ibn Hemsi (Dahma 1876).
The New Zealand Arab Horse Breeders Society Inc. have awarded their 2006 WAHO Trophy to the veteran stallion, Ngapa Joussif. A highly valued working Arabian stock horse and good mate for his owner Stuart, ‘Joussif’ has been a valued part of the Cottle family for 22 years, since he was 7 years old. Always very reliable, kind and energetic to ride, he also was unflappable with working dogs barking around him, and a stock whip being used off his back when working cattle, this very versatile athletic horse achieved many “Converts to the Arabian Horse Faith” and gained much respect for the Arab Breed in an area which was a notoriously anti-arabian.
Joussif is always very much a “gentleman”, very good with mares and to handle. He was well behaved in company and went on several CTR rides accompanying our children on their ponies. He was likened to a Rolls Royce or Mercedes to ride by several very good riders and was a natural at jumping with the comment being made by two very experienced Show & one-day event riders that he was “the best horse I’ve ever ridden - so light, smooth, supple and responsive”. His ridden career was ended at 22 due to a serious injury, nowadays Joussif is enjoying retirement and looks very well at 29 years of age.
A very good ambassador for the Arabian breed both within New Zealand & internationally due to his progeny and in particular his son Zephyr’s great achievements which put New Zealand Endurance “on the map” in the mid 90’s both at home and overseas. This international recognition is continuing with eight “Joussif horses” now having been exported and successes such as ‘Zanthus’ winning a Heavyweight Quilty & BC, plus he has recently won an important 120km race in Dubai in a very fast time. Joussif has therefore achieved International recognition for New Zealand bred Arabian horses.
As a youngster only Joussif did very well in halter classes, but was not shown since due to no fault of his own, just because where he lived there were very few shows. His progeny however have done exceptionally well in the show ring, in particular ‘Delights Azeem’ has achieved a New Zealand National Supreme Exhibit title. Joussif has in fact produced many halter and ridden show winners in New Zealand which have also successfully competed under saddle against other breeds, thus helping to achieve a better reputation for Arabians. He epitomizes the real genuine “New Zealand-bred Performance Sire” and has made such a tremendous contribution to his country’s Arabian horse scene, particularly in endurance.

RIGONA Chestnut Mare. 1993. (Abakan / Ragonka). Breeder: Mr. G. Struik. Owner: Mr. Luut Schutrups. Strain: Kehaileh Rodanieh (Rodania 1869)
Bred by Mr. Struik when he himself was over 80 years of age, Rigona was bought by Mr. Schutrups, the proud owner, as a filly-foal in 1993. In 1994 she won the filly championships in the Dutch regionals and in 1996 she captured the National title as Junior Champion Mare.
Awarded ‘First Premium mare’ status a few years later by the Dutch studbook authority, she was broken to ride and then took on the task of breeding mare with very successful offspring, of which her two ‘First Premium’ daughters Kupona and Karona are still owned by Mr. Schutrups himself.
In 2005 she earned the highest studbook breeding title of ‘Elite Mare’, which she received based on the show and sport results of her progeny. Under rider Marloes Leeman she herself moved up to the “Z” level of Dutch dressage in 2006 for which she received a title-certificate in recognition of her achievements.
This impressive mare, through her own achievements and those of her progeny, is an excellent ambassador for the breed in the Netherlands. Being such a successful performer herself as a show horse, in performance under saddle and as a broodmare, it was not hard for the Dutch Registry to select Rigona to receive their 2006 WAHO Trophy!

WIELKI PAWO Grey stallion. 1994. (Pawodok – Wielka Cha-Cha) Owner/Breeder: Åge Stenumgård. Strain: Kehailan Dajani (Mlecha)
The Norwegian Arab Horse Society is pleased to announce that Wielki Pawo has been awarded their 2006 WAHO Trophy. This lovely stallion of predominantly Polish bloodlines has been champion several times at international shows as well as gaining Best in Show titles.
He also excels under saddle. Over the last few years he has been trained and ridden in several competitions including dressage, with good results.

His wonderful temperament has also allowed him to be used for some rather unusual assignments. He has been used by an artist who wanted photos with a horse in different kinds of situations. The first time it was by the photographer Knut Bry who wanted to make a poster for a play. Wielki Pawo was the horse he chose, and he took the horse indoors onto the stage of the Oslo National Theatre to get the poster he wanted. In the summer of 2006 another artist, Kristin Gunter, wanted to show the movement of a horse from a very different viewpoint - from directly underneath. This was a very complicated project because the horse had to trot across a bridge made of Plexiglas which was 15 metres long and suspended 1.5 metres above ground level. Click to Enlarge
An Arabian was perfect for this job because the horse could not be too heavy (due to the strength of the Plexiglas), and again Wielki Pawo was chosen. The artist then stood underneath this Plexiglas bridge, filming the horse. Kristin Gunter showed this film at Kistefoss museum with very great success.

Click to Enlarge To successfully meet such unusual challenges, a horse must have tremendous trust and confidence in his handler in what he is being asked to do. Therefore, it was considered that for the above reasons, as well as for his beauty and show wins, Wielki Pawo displays the best Arabian attributes to a high degree, and is a worthy ambassador of the breed in Norway.

SAMIR (Hosam / Usajna) Chestnut stallion, 1984. Breeder & Owner: National Stud Farm Topolcianky. Strain: Obeyan (Karima)
The Slovak Republic has announced their winning horse for their 2006 WAHO Trophy Award. A special commission organized by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Slovak Republic selected the veteran stallion Samir as the recipient. He was chosen on the basis of his excellent pedigree, outstanding conformation, superb movement and performance both in hand and under saddle, and for his success as a breeding stallion.
The population of purebred Arabian horses in Slovakia is quite small and this is the only reason why Samir was not also tested on the race-track. All his connections at Topolcianky are very proud of their home-bred stallion Samir, the worthy recipient of the 2006 WAHO Trophy in their country.
