ZT NAPHL 1994 Grey stallion. (Imperial Napharr / ZT Difl). Breeder: Count Federico Zichy Thyssen. Owners: Carlos and QuiQui Larrere. Strain: Kehailan Ajuz (Nejdme, 1887).
The 2006 WAHO Trophy was awarded by the Arabian Horse Breeders Society of Argentina to ZT Naphl. This horse achieved an outstanding racing record in both Argentina and in the USA, where he was awarded the title of Darley Champion Older Horse of the Year in 1999. In the USA he took part in 20 races over 3 seasons, winning over $100,00 in prize money. He won 5 races including at Group 1 level and placed 2nd to 4th in all his other 15 races. Since 1998 he has held the turf track record over 8.5 furlongs at Delaware Park in a time of 1:54.3. As a sire, he is now producing both endurance and flat racing contenders.

CAMALOT LAHANA. 1992. Chestnut mare. (Arabesque Amon-Ra / Mai-San Marcasite). Breeder: Patricia Dawn Layton. Owners: Janice Hingston & Tony Gifford. Strain: Seglawieh Jedranieh of Ibn Soudan (Ghazieh).
The owners of this talented mare, of old Crabbet bloodlines, decided to breed from her after thirteen years of being a valuable work horse, but first they planned one last attendance in the Working Stock Horse Class at a major show to prove that she could mix with the “best of them”. The Australian Nationals was the venue chosen, but first Camalot Lahana needed to qualify. She duly received a standing ovation at the Top of the Range show in Toowoomba as she qualified for the Nationals. It was only after she had been entered in the Nationals that the owners realised that the Working Stock Horse Class had another trophy to be awarded to the eventual Champion in this event – the 2006 WAHO Trophy for Australia, as decided by the Australian Arabian Horse Association.
On looking at the WAHO website, they found out that the idea of the trophy was to promote Arabians outside of the show ring. They felt that Camalot Lahana certainly fits that bill, since over the years she has campdrafted, mustered, roped and dragged cattle and calves to the branding iron, all without fuss. She has the qualities of excellence that Arabian horse breeders command and attention has been placed on her many times with her excellent cut out scores in the camp at drafts. So much so, that stalwart stock horse stallion owners have been known to comment that they would have put their stallion over this mare any day. To the owners, those comments are promotion enough of the Arab breed, as unfortunately Arabians are scorned generally as unworthy participants in the Australian specialist sport of campdrafting.
At the Australian National Championships, Camalot Lahana proved her worth once more and won the title of Champion Working Stock Horse, her workout receiving many whoops of delight and much applause.
Unfortunately it was not possible for the AHSA to arrange to make the WAHO Trophy presentation at the Show, and although the owners were very disappointed by this, they remain justifiably proud of their wonderful mare and all her many achievements both in her work at home and in competition.
AL ALIHA Black mare, 2000. (DWD Tabasco / Gahari). Breeder and Owner: Gerhard & Michael Huber, Al Hambra Arabians. Strain: Kehaileh Rodania (Rodania 1869)
The 2006 WAHO trophy was awarded for the second year by the Austrian Arabian Horse Breeder’s Association (VVÖ). The selection for this special trophy is made at the Annual General Meeting of the VVÖ, for which members receive proposals of several horses who have been successful in sports and/or shows with detailed results, and then they select their favourite in a secret ballot. This year’s winner was the mare AL ALIHA, bred and owned by Al Hambra Arabians Stud, which was founded by the Huber family in 1988 and today is the biggest stud in Austria dedicated to the purebred Arabian.
Al Aliha is the most successful national and international show mare in halter classes ever bred in Austria, she had achieved 201 points in the ECAHO life performance ranking by the time of the presentation of the trophy. To list all her successes would take too much space, but her most important wins were: European Reserve Champion Filly 2002; Top Ten Mare, World Championships 2005; Senior Reserve Champion Mare at Menton and Wels 2005.
During Austria’s 2006 show in Wels Mrs. Gabriele Hammerer who received Austria’s 2005 WAHO Trophy for TM Aikor, alongside Mrs. Anne Heiloo, President of the VVÖ, presented the WAHO Trophy for the year 2006 to Gerhard & Michael Huber, the breeders of Al Aliha.

TEKBIR. 2002, Chestnut Mare. (Piligrim / Tabletka). Breeder and Owner: Mr. Mamed Guseynov. Strain: Hamdanieh Simrieh (Selma).
The Arabian Horse Association of the Republic of Azerbaijan is happy to announce that their decision for their 2006 WAHO Trophy winner is the chestnut mare Tekbir, bred and owned by Mr. Mamed Guseynov and born in Azerbaijan on 16.04.2002. Tekbir was imported in utero from Russia, her dam Tabletka being by the world-famous stallion, Balaton. Following an inspection of all the Arabian horses in the Republic of Azerbaijan, Tekbir was selected on a number of criteria, including exterior measurements, appearance and movement, as being the best Arabian horse in the country. That is why this year’s WAHO Trophy for Azerbaijan is presented to this excellent young mare.

The WAHO Trophy winner for the year 2006 was Bahrain's Arabian Racehorse of the Year JELLABY BALSAM from the Royal Arabian Stud of Bahrain. The presentation took place on the 3rd of March 2007 on the occasion of the HH Sheikh Faisal Bin Hamad Al Khalifa National Arabian Horse Show 2007. Dr. Ibrahim Zaghloul, WAHO Executive Committee Member, presented the trophy to HH Sheikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa; also present was HH Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

JELLABY BALSAM showed promise of things to come by winning his very first race. We salute the training skills of his handler 'Abdi' Redha Abbas, who also trained Bahrain's 2005 WAHO Trophy winner Shuwaimaan Jazeel.

SPIRIT MB 1992, Chestnut Stallion. (Pobeg / Daicha). Breeder: MB Arabian Horses. Owner: Claude Tomberg. Strain: Kehailan Rodan (Rodania 1869).
The Belgian Arabian Horse Registry has announced that the stallion Spirit MB has been awarded their 2006 WAHO Trophy. This stallion’s pedigree combines a high percentage of Russian lines with old English and Crabbet lines.
Since his early years, Spirit has competed in open dressage competitions against other breeds. He was the winner of his first open competition (E4) on the day of his fourth birthday. Thereafter, Spirit was successful at the Belgian Championships for Young Dressage Horses of 4 years. After these results, Spirit and Claude have been trained by the well known Patrick Le Rolland. They also went to Germany, the kingdom of dressage, to perfect themselves. Despite the long journey, they travelled regularly to Germany for training and competing. Now that they have reached a good standard, Spirit and Claude are going to a very high level trainer, Wolfgang Grattop, who has worked with some of the best German team horses and the Olympic champion, Salinero. Spirit is now competing at “S” level in the official competitions of the Belgian Federation for Equestrian Sports and he has competed up to Intermediaire I level.
In ECAHO sport horse competitions, Spirit won the bronze medal at the last European Championships. He has also for several years helped Belgium to win third place at the Sports Nations Cup at Aachen.
For an Arabian stallion to compete and succeed against other breeds on the highly competitive European dressage circuit is not common, and Spirit MB is therefore a real example of what can be achieved by talent and determination from both the horse and the rider. Belgium is very proud of his achievements and consider him to be an excellent ambassador for the Arabian breed.
ARABI. 1991. Chestnut Stallion. (TS Chac / Louida). Breeder and Owner: Mr. Abdala Bedran. Strain: Managhi Hedruj (Haidee 1869)
Arabi was selected by the Belize Arabian Stud Book Committee as their 2006 WAHO Trophy winner. The reasons for this selection include his good conformation, good disposition, and his prepotency as a sire. Arabi has been trained for Western style riding and he is also adept at working cattle. This happy and good natured stallion loves trail-riding on jungle trails, he enjoys leading the way and is always alert and aware of his surroundings. In a country with few purebred Arabians, he certainly flies the flag as an ambassador for the breed in the best possible way.

WASHA. 1982. Chestnut Mare. (Shalom / Warissa). Breeder: PAJB-Arabians. Owner: Lisa Kiesbuy. Strain: Not Recorded (Family of Murana, 1808)
The Danish Society of Arabian Horse Breeding (DSAH) has awarded the 2006 WAHO Trophy for Denmark to the mare WASHA. Now 23 years old, this beautiful mare from the so-called "Danish W” line founded by the well known German-bred mare Warissa, has not only achieved show ring success herself, but has also become breeder’s dream of a very special broodmare whose progeny are often even better than she is.
Her dam Warissa’s influence is immortal in Danish Arab horse breeding. With an international pedigree including bloodlines from Crabbet, Egypt, Poland, Argentina and Germany, Warissa was most often bred to El Mokari (who has become a legend in Denmark) yet until now her true successor has undoubtedly been WASHA, by the Egyptian/Spanish stallion, Shalom. The Bedouin tradition of retaining the first daughter has been proved true in this case. Click to Enlarge
It is true to say that WASHA has inherited the qualities of her famous dam in all areas, a feminine beauty of harmonious balance with the classic face and characteristic big black eyes that are the very special “Warissa heritage” and which are passed on from generation to generation. WASHA was a show champion both as a filly and as a mature mare. In 1993 she had the special honour to become Senior Mare Champion, best Danish-bred Horse and Best in Show at the Danish National Championships. More importantly, as a broodmare she has consistently passed on the extraordinary beauty and charisma inherited from her dam, no matter which stallion she is bred to and no matter their bloodlines.
Owned in turn over the years by her breeders PAJB-Arabians, by the Husted family and now by Lisa and Steven Kiesbue of Mekka-Arabians, WASHA is the dam, grand-dam and great-grand-dam of many consistently high quality foals. Just to mention two of her direct offspring, there is the up and coming young stallion Laheeb Ibn Washa (by FS Eternal Flame), now proving himself as a sire through his son Mahfouz (out of Mekka). WASHA’s most famous daughter is undoubtedly the beautiful chestnut Wanessa, by El Mokari. This multi-champion mare is very well known in Denmark both as a show mare and in her own right as a broodmare and in turn is the dam of the incomparable show-stopper Wanila by Ansata Nile Pasha, who herself produced the champion show horse and significant sire Wan Kahli (by FS Bengali) and also as the ultra-feminine Wadiah (by Khidar).
Now living in retirement with her proud and happy owners the Kiesbue family, the grand old lady WASHA remains very beautiful despite her advancing years, still showing off her extraordinary floating movement, with her tail carried high and proud. This is truly a “once-in-a-lifetime” mare. The DSAH would like to offer the breeders and owners of this distinguished and much-loved mare their sincere congratulations on winning the well-earned 2006 WAHO Trophy for Denmark.
