ZACATECO [Jacio / Baldosa]. Chestnut stallion, 1980. Breeder and Owner: Yeguada Militar de Jerez. Strain: Hamdani Simri (Sambry 1904).
The Spanish Arabian Horse Breeders Society (AECCA) is delighted to be able to initiate the journey of the WAHO Trophy, by awarding it for the first time to Zacateco, a very special 25-year old stallion, owned and bred by the Spanish National Stud, the Yeguada Militar, whose stallions have been the foundation of a large number of the private Studs in existence today.
Zacateco is an excellent representative of the historic lines of Arabian horses in Spain, and is probably the most influential Sire of the last 20 years, classified First in the Stallions Book of Merits. He has been used by a considerable number of private Breeders, with excellent results, producing (up to the end of 2005) a total of 218 offspring, all with his gentle nature and considerable intelligence. Many of these, direct and second generation descendents, have been outstanding in halter classes, Internationally as well as Nationally, including several classified Top 10 in Paris at the World Championship, an All Nations Cup Champion and a European Reserve Champion and many others, well placed in these and other Shows.
In Sports Competitions, he has sired many successful Endurance competitors, as well as Jumping, Dressage and Eventing horses at all levels, including Open National Championships, in- and outside of Spain. Particularly important to modern day breeding are those horses which combine remarkable results in both Ridden and Halter Classes. Now 25 years old, Zacateco has been the Senior Chief Sire at the Yeguada Militar for many years.

JB PSYNDERELLA [CE Magnum / Estetica]. Bay mare, 2004. Breeder and Owner: Britt Svanberg and Jorgen Olsen. Strain: Not Recorded, family of Woloszka (1810).
The WAHO Trophy for 2005 was proudly awarded to the best Swedish-bred Arabian with the highest points given at the Swedish Nationals in 2005 (in halter). Britt Svanberg and Jorgen Olsen also bred and own her dam, Estetica, a young mare born in 2000 by L.M. Limaal, and it is fascinating to note the connection that JB Psynderella is the great-great-great granddaughter of Poland’s 2005 WAHO Trophy winner, Etruria.

NIL NOUZA [(Gips / Nil Nubia] Grey Mare, 1994. Breeder: Urs & Brigitte Aeschbacher-Kocher, Nile Arabian Stud; Owner: Urs Aeschbacher. Strain: Kehaileh Rodania (Rodania 1869).
In 2005 Nil Nouza was the highest scored horse at the Swiss National Show in Berne and was nominated by the SZAP (Schweizerische Zuchtgenossenschaft für Arabische Pferde) as “The best bred Arabian horse in Switzerland”. This title was given to her twice before, in 1995 and 1999. In 2005, at the same show, Nil Nouza’s daughter Nil Nana by Extreme reached the highest score among the one to three year old horses.
The 11-year old Gips daughter Nil Nouza represents the fourth generation of “Nile Breeding” of the Nile Arabian Stud in Switzerland. Her great-grandmother, the straight Egyptian mare Naya (Kaisoon x Nana) was one of Nile Arabians’ foundation mares. Nil Nouza’s mother Nil Nubia (Versal x Nil Najada by Ansata Halim Shah) represents one of the early and successful products originating from breeding Straight Egyptian mares to Russian stallions in the late 1980s.

ANGHAM AL BADER [Hassan / Somah]. Grey mare, 2001. Breeder and Owner: Mr. Saleh Khaddam Srouji. Strain: Shweimet Sabbah.
The Syrian Arab Horse Breeders Society has informed WAHO that they have awarded their WAHO Trophy for 2005. They decided in advance to award it to the best horse at their 2005 Syrian National Championships Show. The Trophy was presented at the Show in a special award ceremony.
The lovely youg mare Angham Al Bader is the result of several generations of breeding by Mr. Srouji at his stud farm in Damascus, she traces exclusively to Syrian Bedouin-bred horses from all the well known strains. Her antecedents were bred by the Anezeh, Iqaidat, Shammar, Jboor, Ruala, Weld Ali and Tai tribes. Her sire, Hassan, also bred by Mr. Srouji, is a well known stallion in Syria, he is of the Hamdani Ibn Ghorab strain renowned for passing on his exceptional movement and tail carriage. Interestingly, he is also the sire of Angham Al Bader’s dam, Somah.

OURABI [Safouen / Zoujaja] Chestnut stallion, 2002. Breeder: Mr. Jammali Akkachi. Owner: Mr. Ridha Ghobber. Strain: Jelfan (Dolma-Batché 1869).
The Fondation Nationale D'Amelioration De La Race Chevaline has decided to award their WAHO Trophy 2005 in the category of Arabian racing, which is a very popular and highly competitive activity for Arabian horses in Tunisia.
The award has been made to the fine chestnut stallion, Ourabi, who was the 2005 winner of the most important race in Tunisia, " Le Grand Prix du Président de la Répulique".
This horse was born in Maknassy, and is bred and owned by people from Maknassy. His sire and dam were bred in Maknassy. So the success of this horse is certainly due to this region, which is known by the greatest interest it gives for Arabian horse breeding and to the particularities of its breeding methods relative to the hard climatic conditions, which makes horses very resistant and bred in natural conditions.
So it has been a great pleasure for the institution FNARC to reward the breeders of this region by awarding the WAHO Trophy to their winning horse OURABI.

ÖZGÜNHAN. [Özgün / Neame 39] Chestnut stallion, 1998. Breeder: Anadolu Agriculture Enterprise (State Stud). Owners: Mr. Adil Turan and Mr. Ali Yildiz. Strain: Dahman Umm Amer (Neame, 1923)
The Turkish Arabian Stud Book Office at the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture has informed us that their 2005 WAHO Trophy has been awarded, by decision of a special Commission, to the stallion Özgünhan. They decided that not only does this horse display all the phenotypic features of the Arabian horse, but he is also a supreme athlete.
In a country where racing is the main activity for Arabians, Özgünhan has an outstanding race record. Between 2001 and 2005 he raced 38 times in Istanbul, Ankara and Adana, with 26 wins and 10 places. Amongst those wins were eight Group 1 races and 6 Group 2 races. His sire, Özgün, also showed good racing performance and he has produced many champion race-winning offspring. His dam Neame 39 also produced the colts Don Juan, Halid, Sam Ay and Yavuzca, all of them have now achieved the status of breeding stallions.
The presentation was made to the owner, Mr. Adil Turan and the breeder & TIGEM General Director, Mr. Ismail Hakki Sayin by Dr. Emin Pekkaya, the Turkish Arabian Stud Book Registrar and WAHO Stud Book Advisory Committee Member. Also present at the award ceremony were Mr. Umur Tamer, President of the Turkish Jockey Club, and Commission Members Mr. Cihat Guruz, Mr. Hucum Tulgar & Mr. Selman Tasbek.
As a further interesting footnote, Özgünhan’s dam Neame 39 was bred by Sultansuyu State Stud. His sire Özgün was bred by Karacabey State Stud. Özgünhan himself was bred by Anadolu State Stud, so he neatly encompasses all three Turkish State Studs of the Ministry of Agriculture and is a worthy winner of Turkey’s first WAHO Trophy.

PHA SILVERN RISALM [Silvern Sceptre / Rislina]. Grey Stallion, 1994. Breeder: Mr. David & Mrs. Jean Peck. Owners: Tony and Tiffany McCarthy. Strain: Kehailan Rodan (Rodania 1869).
The Council of The Arab Horse Society in Great Britain unanimously chose PHA Silvern Risalm as the first British winner of the WAHO Trophy. This 11 year old grey stallion, of all British bloodlines dating back to the early imports to this country, was chosen primarily for his excellence in ridden competitions.
A very good looking horse with a wonderful temperament, PHA Silvern Risalm is also proving to be an excellent ambassador for the Arabian horse in the UK, having won the major title of Ridden Arabian Horse of the Year at the prestigious Horse of the Year Show, in front of an audience of many hundreds of spectators for whom this may have been their first exposure to the Arabian breed. Winner of 14 International Championships, 16 National Championships and 38 Regional Championships under saddle, PHA Silvern Risalm is now competing successfully in affiliated dressage, proving that the Arabian horse can compete and win against other breeds in this demanding equestrian discipline. Already training at medium level, it is hoped that he will reach advanced level dressage training in 2006
The Council of the Arab Horse Society decided to mark this award with a special presentation at the 2005 British National Championships Show, where PHA Silvern Risalm made a solo appearance in the main ring by special invitation. Ridden as always by his producer, Darren Crowe, he enthralled the enthusiastic and appreciative audience with a superb dressage display, before his owners Tony and Tiffani McCarthy were presented with the WAHO Trophy and commemorative Certificate by Mrs. Annette Hedley, Chairman of Council of the Arab Horse Society of Great Britain and WAHO Executive Committee Member. Also attending the award ceremony were his breeders, Jean and David Peck, his handler at home, Richard Deamer, and Darren’s mother Ann Crowe.

REMINGTON STEELE [Gaffizon / Jordjina] Grey stallion, 1982. Breeder: Perisian Park. Owners: Andy and Patti Bailey. Strain: Not Recorded, family of Milordka 1816.
The Board of the Purebred Arabian Registry of America (PAHR), after considerable deliberation and from a large number of possible choices, selected the well known stallion Remington Steele (Gaffizon x Jordjina) as their first WAHO Trophy winner, for 2005. Born in 1982, and affectionately known at home as “Rem”, he is a beautiful stallion with a golden disposition. He has accomplished a record of halter and performance wins in so many different divisions that he outshines any other US Arabian today. This heavily Crabbet bred stallion has recently been honoured at the Kentucky Horse Park as the most versatile Arabian in history, and named a ‘living legend’.
Not only was he Top Ten in Halter at the 1988 US & Canadian Nationals, but shortly afterward he won the coveted '100 miles in one day' buckle in the famously difficult Tevis Cup Endurance race, which takes place over very arduous terrain and makes many other endurance rides look like a walk in the park. In addition he has successfully competed in Competitive Trail, Hunter/ Jumper, Dressage and Driving classes and been Champion in Western Pleasure, Native Costume and Liberty classes. At the age of 17 he made a return appearance in the Halter show ring at Scottsdale in 1999 to again achieve a Top Ten award. He is also a leading Sport Horse sire not only on his own record, but on that of his foals as well, three of them having equalled or bettered their sire’s record.
He can be, and is, safely ridden by children and beginners, but when the occasion demands, he has the true stallion’s protective instinct – as he showed when his brave heart and calm temperament saved his rider, owner Patti Bailey, from a mountain lion attack on a trail ride. Popular with breeders both at home and all over the world by use of frozen semen, he is also an excellent sire for mares of other breeds. A special Arabian in so many ways, and a great ambassador for the breed, “Rem” is the pride and joy of his owners. PAHR could not think of a more deserving horse for this first WAHO trophy to be awarded in the USA.

EF George gained the highest points over the last three years in all the riding events with his rider Marcelo Guinovart. He also gave demonstrations of "mansedumbre" on several occasions. He is also a breeding stallion with several excellent progeny. Mr. Lucini and his horse EF George were presented with the Trophy by WAHO Secretary, Federico Garcia Brum, at a specially arranged and well-received prize-giving ceremony. This took place during the International Week of the Arabian Horse in Punta del Este in January, 2006.
