The Finnish Arabian Horse Society has awarded their 2011 WAHO Trophy to the 20-year old broodmare Sheba, who is of predominantly Polish bloodlines.

  • Sharongramm - excellent results in international ECAHO shows.
Sheba herself is also a successful show mare and was awarded the 2000 Finnish Champion Mare title with gold medal points. She is a very well deserved winner of the 2011 WAHO Trophy for Finland.

PERSEPOLIA LARZAC grey mare, 2003 [Said Lotois / Babilonia by Persik]. Breeder: Jean Claude Gobart. Owner: Royal Endurance Team of Bahrain Strain: Not Recorded (Arabka de Pompadour)
Persepolia Larzac, bred in France and owned by the Royal Endurance Team of Bahrain claimed the 2011 FEI World Endurance Championships for Young Horses in the 8-year old division at Compiegne in France, gaining her the additional award of the 2011 WAHO France Compiegne Trophy. Over a testing course, and in intense heat, Persepolia Larzac returned the quickest time in the 8 Year Old division to take the gold medal.
Competing against 27 starters from all over the world, Persepolia Larzac, skillfully ridden by Salman Isa Al Radhi completed the 160 km course with an average speed of 19.442 kmh. Al Radhi, who only joined the Royal Endurance Team of Bahrain in 2011, was delighted with the performance of his mare Persepolia Larzac. "From the third loop I could feel her speed. I rode her in a 160km race in Germany this year and came fifth, but this is my first time in Compiegne" he explained
This lovely mare is by the Zulus (PL) son Said Lotois (FR) out of Babilonia (FR), a daughter of the renowned and highly influential endurance sire Persik (SU) who was bred at Tersk Stud. Her female line is Spanish, and all in all her pedigree combines some of the best-known international endurance lines.
Sandrine Lance and the purebred Arabian gelding Movisko du Lauragais [Sisko / Nedjma de Caux] took the silver medal for France, with Spain's Monica Comas Molist and the purebred French-bred Arabian mare Princesse de Campagne [Kalhan / Lola Des Jamets] taking the bronze medal.

BARFIN Grey stallion, 1995. (Mobarak / Jem). Breeder: Mrs. Mary Gharagozlou. Owner: Zia Vakil Sadaat. Strain: Kehailan Ajuz (Berenji, 1966)
The beautiful stallion Barfin has been officially awarded the 2011 WAHO Trophy. He was bred by Mary Gharagozlou, by the imported Straight Egyptian stallion Mobarak bred by Dr. Nagel in Germany, out of a particularly lovely mare called Jem, herself by the imported American-bred stallion, Aegian Rooz out of the Iranian-bred mare, Berenji. Right from the beginning, the little chestnut/grey colt showed great potential. At that time, young Hilly Benjamin took a fancy to the gorgeous snow white mare Jem who was also the dam of her beloved colt, Patan. The four of them were quite a sight, Hilly riding Jem out on those beautiful hills surrounding Mary’s property, followed by the 2 years old Patan and little Barfin.
Barfin was 2 years old when a major breeder from Yazd, Zia Vakil Sadat, bought him - not knowing yet what an important impact he was to have in their region. In his new ownership, Barfin was raced successfully for 2 consecutive years and after that began his siring duties. The resulting foals were of great quality and he would upgrade most of the mares bred to him.
To date Barfin has sired more than 300 foals and most of them were not only successful on the racetrack but they have also been winning at shows. Just to name a few of his offspring who have also been breeding with great results: Khaghan (out of Akhtan) was the most awarded race horse in Iran, Roham (out of Azizeh), Khordad (out of Parvaz), Zamzam, Chaman Soltan, Hafez, Chalderan, Sharareh, Zolfaghar, Rudabeh, and the list goes on.
Barfin has had a great influence in Iran, and especially in the region of Yazd which has at present more than 300 breeders. He is a very worthy winner of the 2011 WAHO Trophy for his country of birth. The important WAHO Trophy Award Ceremony in his honour is planned to take place during the Arabian Show in Yazd in May 2012.

AREEJ Grey mare, 1995. (Jood / Atarah). Breeder and owner: Royal Jordanian State Stud. Strain: Hamdanieh Samerieh (Selwa I)
The charming 16 year old mare Areej is the well-deserved recipient of Jordan's 2011 WAHO Trophy. The presentation was made during the 2011 Middle East Championships Show in Amman.
According to the citation which explains the reason that Areej won this prestigious award, she has been the most constantly patient and loving of the Arabian horses in the Growing Together project. This initiative started by the Princess Alia Foundation in Amman offers equine therapy for children on the autistic spectrum and for others with special needs. Areej, who is of predominantly ‘old Jordanian’ bloodlines with added Spanish lines, is never impatient or grumpy with the children, she has done so much not only for them and their families but also for the Arabian breed in general. Despite no special training herself she has taken to her new responsibilities with the generosity of spirit and inherent kindness that should be the hallmark of the true Arabian mare, with amazing results. She is not only helping the children, but also spreading the word of how horses can be great healers, and it is for this role as a superb representative of all that is best about the Arabian breed that she has been awarded the WAHO Trophy.
