PIRUNA Grey Mare, 1997. [Piruet / Into My Dream]. Breeder: Julius Fischer. Owner: Gregor Pintar, Sencila Bled d.o.o. Strain: Kehaileh Jellabieh (Jellabiet Feysul)
The Slovenian Stud Book Authority has decided to award the mare PIRUNA with their 2008 WAHO Trophy.
Though this mare was not born in Slovenia, being an import from Germany and registered in the first Slovenian Arabian Stud Book, her four Slovenian-born and registered foals are of such excellent quality that the Slovenian SBA believe she has more than proved her breeding potential as a mare of signifance to the breed in their country. They expect her contribution to the success of her owner’s stud farm and her ability to improve the quality of the small Slovenian population of Arabian horses will be substantial. Therefore, all these facts were considered to qualify this mare as the Slovenian WAHO Trophy winner for 2008. Last but not least, it also means a recognition of the merits of her owner, Mr. Gregor Pintar, who is undoubtedly one of Slovenia’s most dedicated and competent breeders.

SIDI OBSESSION 2000, Grey Mare (Magical CAF x Harka) Breeder and owner: Mr. A.W.A. Maritz. Strain: Not Recorded (Family of Verana, 1934).
The Arab Horse Society of South Africa is proud to announce the winner of their 2009 WAHO Trophy.
Text by Zandri Reynolds. The saying goes that only from true greatness come greatness! The WAHO Trophy certainly was intended for such great individuals. When one looks at a pedigree with horses in it such as Ansata Ibn Halima, Salaa el Din, Moniet el Nefous, El Shaklan, Estopa, Ali Jamaal, Ruminaja Ali, Bey Shah, Bask and Marsianin, one expects some degree of greatness and Sidi Obsession is no exception to that rule. Her sire was imported from USA, and her dam, bred by the Maxwells, was imported from UK. She was born in the stables of world renowned breeder, showman and judge Jack Maritz. Her name indicates that at her birth, Jack already held high expectations from this exquisite mare.
In her young life, Sidi Obsession has never failed to live up to that high expectation resting on her shoulders from birth. At her debut show, the South African National Championships, she was paced 4th in Fillies under 6 months, ever since has never looked back and went on to earn herself many rosettes, amongst them Champion Foal, twice Junior Champion mare, numerous Res. Junior Champion Mare, Senior Champion Mare, twice Res. Senior Champion Mare and Supreme Champion Mare.
Coming from the Maritz's stables it came as no surprise that this beautiful mare, with her extreme type and beautiful, smooth body, was put under saddle. Most of the Maritz's Halter Champions goes on to be even more versatile under saddle Champions. Sidi Obsession is no exception and just like most of her stable mates excels in a wide variety of riding disciplines. In the short 3 years under saddle she has already won over 40 riding classes in Riding Horse, Show Hack, Hunter Pleasure, Country Pleasure, Costume and English Pleasure, with just as many placings as well!

What makes this mare's achievement even more remarkable is that she competes equally well, both in Open riding classes with her owner, Jack sr. aboard and in Children's riding classes, with young Jackie jr., only 12 years old, aboard. Together Sidi Obsession and young Jackie makes a mean team, hard to beat and regularly takes the Child Victor Ludorum Trophy home with their many wins. Aboard Sidi Obsession, young Jackie is finding all the confidence and experience that will make him a truly great horseman just like his father, Fanie, his brother, Fanie jr and his uncle, Jack sr.
This young mare is an outstanding example of an Arabian horse, she has already been an outstanding ambassador for the Arabian breed and without a doubt will remain such a great ambassador throughout her life. Sidi Obession has all the class and qualities to compete in any country in the world, what a huge privilege that this proudly South African mare graces our show ring, that she will contribute greatly to the future of South African Arabians and that her genetics will carry on in South Africa. Any person sitting next to a show ring, will give anything to own such an exceptional individual. Any parent would give a blank cheque to have their child aboard such a trusting mare, her kind nature makes her any child's dream horse. Sidi Obsession has already produced two stunning foals that are bound to follow in their great dam's footsteps and one day might even follow in her tradition to win the very prestigious WAHO trophy.

MASKARADA Bay mare, 1984. (Partner/Marcessa). Breeder and owner: Blommeröd Arabian Stud. Strain: Not Recorded (family of Milordka, 1816).
The Swedish Arab Horse Society and ARAB (the Swedish Registry) are proud to announce that the mare Maskarada, bred and owned by Blommeröd Arabian Stud, was awarded the WAHO Trophy 2008. The Trophy was presented during the Swedish National Show in August this year.
Maskarada is a daughter by the European Reserve Champion Stallion Partner and out of the Swedish National Champion Mare Marcessa (by Madar). She traces back on her dam's side to the foundation mare Sakla (by Amurath Sahib) who was imported to Sweden 1962 from Poland and brought to Blommeröd in 1967.
She has been an outstanding producer of wonderful mares such as:
  • Margotka, former broodmare at Blommeröd, exported to Belgium in 2008
  • Martyna, exported to Dubai
  • Modesty, broodmare at Blommeröd
  • Mandala, exported to Denmark
  • Colombiana, exported to the USA

From this group of Maskarada’s best daughters, Margotka is the most important to date, as she has left the most precious offspring for Blommeröd and Sweden to be proud of. Her daughters Magora and Marylla, both by Gazal Al Shaqab, have been oustandingly successful at many major and international shows for their new owners in the Middle East. So far, Magora has collected the most show titles and became the 2007/2008 winner of the Dubai Gold Cup for Senior Female Champion at the Dubai International Show.
This makes Maskarada the 'living link' between the past and the future to carry on this valuable dam line in Arabian horse breeding in Sweden and elsewhere. Mares such as this well deserve to win the WAHO Trophy in celebration of their strong contributions to the Arabian breed.

TARAGUN 1992, Chestnut mare. (Shogun/Taretta). Bred by Mrs. Pamela Evans. Owned by Miss Evie Peel. Strain: Kehaileh Dajanieh (Dajania, 1876).
The Arab Horse Society is delighted to announce that this year’s award goes to Taragun for her outstanding performance in the tough sport of Eventing with her 13 year-old owner/rider, Evie Peel. Eventing combines the disciplines of dressage, cross-country jumping and show-jumping, either all in the same day or, at the larger events, spread over 2 or 3 days. Together, Taragun and Evie’s partnership has proven the versatility of the Arabian horse by competing with success against other breeds and adult riders at the Pre-Novice level.
By the international Show winner Shogun, and of an old English pedigree with Crabbet lines, the very attractive Taragun was originally purchased as a broodmare by Mrs. Peel for her Templars Stud in Lancashire. However, her daughter Evie enjoyed riding Taragun so much and the pair did so well with their showjumping, that her broodmare career was put on hold. Taragun has a wonderful temperament, and is a really excellent ambassador for the Arabian breed.

presented with the WAHO Trophy at the AHS National Championships Show 2008.
The WAHO Trophy was awarded by The Hon. Finn Guinness and Mrs. Annette Hedley, Chairman and Vice-Chairman respectively of the AHS Council, at a special presentation at the 2008 AHS National Championships Show, where Evie and Taragun also displayed their prowess at jumping. Since then, Taragun has also been awarded AHS First Premium status at a performance testing day organized by Sport Horse GB where she scored highest out of all the mares present of all breeds, thus being given the rare accolade of Sport Horse GB Mare Grading with direct entry to the Head Stud Book.

A five-time Darley winner (including Darley Horse of the Year twice), this compact bay has proven time and time again that it's not the size of the horse, but the size of the heart that counts. His first crop of foals were born in 2007. With his outstanding Polish racing heritage from his legendary sire Wiking and damline going back to the equally famous Sasanka, DA Adios has every attribute needed to become an important sire in his own right.
