Malikah has reached the age of 25 and she is enjoying her age with dignity with her breeder and owner Jean Laursen, surrounded by children and grandchildren. The next generation are ready to conquer the world and some are already well on their way to continue the heritage of success, that goes with this family. Aksinja, 1999 (Symba x Samitna, ex Amirah) has already been awarded a gold medal in 2005 and she is to be bred for the first time in 2009.
MALIKAH Bay mare, 1984. [Ibn Mohafez / Sheila]. Breeder/Owner: Jean Laursen. Strain: Seglawieh Jedranieh of Ibn Soudan (Ghazieh)
The recipient of the Danish WAHO trophy 2008 is Malikah (Ibn Mohafez x Sheila), and the Danish Society of the Arabian Horse has chosen to award her the trophy because they feel that it is extremely important to remember the fantastic mares that are the corner stone of all breeding of Arabian horses. Malikah has made a big mark on the breeding of Arabians in Denmark and especially her daughters have proven to be very good broodmares who, in spite of not having had a great number of foals, have done very well indeed.
Malikah (which is Arabic for queen) was born in 1984 at the farm of Jean Laursen after her dam Sheila (Silver Scenario x Samirha) had paid a visit to the German Junior Stallion Champion and Elite Stallion Ibn Mohafez (Mohafez x Brawura), who was bred, owned, and shown by the Schultz family. Ibn Mohafez was a handsome, correct horse with a lovely expression and great movements with a lot of push from behind. He was shown in Denmark in 1986, where he was awarded 88 points – and at the same show Malikah won her class for 2 year old fillies and was also awarded a gold medal. Malikah’s dam Sheila was imported in utero from Horsey Island, England in 1976, together with for instance Emba and Pacific, who were both to become extremely important for the breeding of Arabians in Denmark. Sheila was a lovely, liver chestnut mare, she had a beautiful expression and much type and at the same time a very correct conformation. Click to Enlarge
Malikah is a very expressive mare who reflects the best of her pedigree – the Egyptian type from Mohafez, but also a super elastic movement and the great front inherited from her damline. Best of all, she has the most wonderful, gentle spirit and she is a joy to be around, in the stables as well as out on the pastures. Malikah has 3 daughters, full sisters by Pacific, all three of whom are still with their breeder, Jean Laursen. Due to the condition of the market, they have not been put in foal very often, and yet they have all produced progeny that have made an impression in the Danish field of Arabian horses. Gaia and Amirah have been shown and have both been awarded gold medals – Gaia was also Reserve Champion Mare. Malikah’s daughters have produced for instance Pacat (Abhat x Pacifica/Malikah), who won the endurance race Hedelandsløbet 2008, Demir (Symba x Gaia/Malikah), who has produced several successful progeny, among others TA Demirah and TA Jamal, who were Reserve Junior Mare Champion and class winner of 2 year old colts respectively at the Danish Nationals in 2004, and Gomir (Gomel x Amirah/Malikah), who is active in dressage where he competes in open LB and LA classes and is doing very well indeed. Furthermore, Malikah’s handsome son, Amlet, was used under saddle and was a much loved performance horse who unfortunately sired only two foals before his untimely death in 2003.
The Danish Society of the Arabian Horse expresses their heartfelt congratulations to Malikah – and not least to Jean Laursen for having bred this amazing mare.

NITA LOTOISE Grey mare, 2001. Said Lotois / Nikita Lotoise. Breeder: Mr. Guy Barry. Owner: Mr. Vincent Dupont. Strain: Shuweymah Sabbah (Cherifa, 1869).
This lovely grey mare started her athletic career on the racecourse, running 8 times in 2 seasons, gaining several places. She was ridden by her owner, the very experienced endurance competitor Vincent Dupont. As a result of this win, Nita Lotoise also won the 2008 WAHO Compiègne Trophy for France, awarded to the highest placed purebred Arabian in this competition, for which WAHO is the umbrella patron organization.
Her pedigree could be described as the ‘Classic French’ blend of French, Polish, German (Egyptian/Marbach), Moroccan and Tunisian lines.

At the same event, Dr. Nagel awarded the next two highest placed purebred Arabians with a specially created WAHO memento in honour of their success. These were the grey gelding Mediatik Larzac (Branik / Ilam Bint Attilha) bred by Christelle Derosch, owned by Guillaume Vandekerckhove, and ridden by Sandrine Lance who took first place in the World Young Horse Endurance Championships (for horses 8 years old); and the bay mare Jaya De Bozouls (Prim De Syrah / Aljaima De Bouzols), bred and owned by E.A.R.L. Mezagri and ridden by Olivier Bayenne, who took third place in the championship ride for 7 year olds.
All the winners were born and bred in France and were still competing for their country with French riders, an excellent achievement at such an important and high profile international endurance event.

PAMIR I Grey Stallion, 1990. (Penthagonn x Shams El Inaza). Breeder: Mrs. Margherita Hospowsky, Germany. Owner: Haupt und Landgestüt Marbach, Germany. Strain: Hadban Enzahi (Elsissa I, 1870)
The 2008 WAHO Trophy for Germany was presented to the stallion Pamir I by WAHO President Dr. Hans-J. Nagel in a well received public ceremony on the occasion of the All Nations Cup in Aachen.
On his sire’s side PAMIR I carries the blood of the elite stallions Penthagonn, Pasat and Diem and on his dam’s side he has the blood of the elite stallions Ibrahim, Mohamed and Nazir. Despite his Polish- bred sire, Pamir I is regarded as a representative of the Weil breeding line of Bairactar (OA). It is mainly owed to Pamir I that this traditional bloodline has returned to its origin in the stud farm Weil-Marbach.
Having received a top grade of 7 (licensed to cover all breeds) in 1993, on the occasion of his 100-days Performance Test Pamir I showed his ability impressively and won with 136.82 points. After that he passed into Marbach’s possession.
Not only his noble type, but also his abilities as a riding horse and the correctness of his conformation are very important features as regards his use for breeding and to date he has some 70 purebred Arabian offspring born in Germany.
So far four of his sons have passed their Performance Tests with more than 100 points, Shalimar II (out of Shidari by Madkour I) was the best with 124.93 points.
Several of his warm-blood offspring are also proving successful in sport competitions. More than 20 of his offspring have been registered as sport horses with the FN (Fédération Equestre Nationale); 9 of them achieved good results until the end of 2007.

DAHMAN BAGHDAD Grey Stallion, 2005. (Sattae / Ghalia Al-Thania). Breeder and Owner: Omar Mohammad Al Nujaifi. Strain: Ubiyan.
The Iraqi Arabian Horse Organization is pleased to announce their 2008 WAHO Trophy winner.
The young stallion Dahman Baghdad has already proved to be a race champion, having won 4 times from 5 races to the end of March 2008, with one 4th place. He won the G1 equivalent of the 2,000 Guineas for Arabians in Iraq, a race for 3 yo colts and fillies, on March 19th 2008. He is very nice looking, resembling the classic Arabian Desert-bred type and has shown the athletic performance expected of his pedigree. The dam comes from a very old and celebrated Iraqi blood-line from a well established pedigree that produced many race champions in the past. The sire Sattae, of the Suwaiti Al Firm strain, was imported to Iraq from Prince Turki bin Fahd bin Mohammed Al Saud’s Nejd Stud Farm in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which breeds 100% Saudi desert-bred horses that are not mixed with any other bloodline. It is hoped that in the future, Dahman Baghdad will become a breeding stallion to reinforce the reintroduction of these rare, traditional and important desert bred lines to Iraq.

ANICA's Board of Council together with ANICA's Sport Commission have selected the outstanding yearling colt, Ali Moniscione, as the winner of Italy’s 2008 WAHO Trophy.
Born and bred in Italy, out of a mare also born and bred in Italy by the Buzzi Family, this young horse has already represented his country with great success in the international Show ring. His results in 2008 so far include:
  • European Champion Colt
  • All Nations Cup - Reserve Champion Colt
  • Italian National Champion Colt
  • Italian National Show - title of ‘Most beautiful horse bred and born in Italy’
The Trophy was presented at the Italian National Championships Show in Verona, and it was very nice that Daniele Serioli came specially to hand over the Trophy to the Buzzi Family on this important occasion. Daniele was representing his mother Melania Serioli who is the owner of last year’s winner, they were away competing for Italy at the World Endurance Championships in Malaysia. It is interesting to note that Ali Moniscione’s dam is the maternal half-sister to the 2005 WAHO Trophy winner for Italy, also bred by the Buzzi Family.

AL HAMAAMA Dark Bay Mare, 1990. (Golden Decimus/Halima). Bred and owned by The Royal Jordanian State Stud. Strain: Kehailet Umm Argub (Nasseb).
Al Hamaama, now aged 18, was selected as this year's WAHO Trophy winner in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the breed in Jordan as well as to Jordan's reputation abroad.
Al Hamaama represents the Jordanian and quite rare strain of Umm Argub. Her dam line traces to Sabal II who was a brilliant racehorse over all distances, while her sire Golden Decimus (GB) was a very successful endurance competitor as well as sire.
Victorious in the show ring in her own right, Al Hamaama won the Reserve Best Head title at the Mediterranean & Arab Countries Championships in Menton, France, in the 1990’s. She and her daughter Al Yamaamah (by Abakan) have frequently shared the winner and reserve placing in that category at the Jordan Nationals as well as at the Middle East Championships in Amman.
She has also both won herself, and contributed to her dam Halima, winning Best Mare Produce Group, or Reserve, several times at the Jordan Nationals and the Middle East Championships. Her progeny and descendants have represented Jordan at shows in Paris, Holland, Austria and Belgium, as well as at the Jordan Nationals and Middle East Championships - where they have garnered many titles, some of them repeatedly, including Reserve National Champion, Middle East Top Ten, and the four separate Highest Points categories for Jordanian born, for Middle East born, for a horse with Sire and Dam born in Jordan, and for a horse with Sire and Dam born in the Middle East.
Al Hamaama’s daughters have proved to be very important broodmares in their own right at her maternal Stud, and her descendants also grace the Royal Stables of Bahrain (daughter Al Hasna by Abakan) and the stud of HH Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Al Nahayan in Abu Dhabi (great grand-daughter, Hilwah by Hlayyil Ramadan).
This year her grand-daughter Yusra won all four categories for Highest Points mentioned above at the Middle East Championships and had the 6th highest points of the whole show, while her great grand-daughter Hoor won the title of Filly Foal Champion and Best Female Head, with her maternal aunt Al Yamaamah as Reserve. (MaShaAllah to all of the above).
Very much treasured at the Royal Jordanian State Stud, it is clear from all the above that Al Hamaama truly earned her WAHO Trophy and Princess Alia Al Hussein Al Saleh, who personally presented the award, felt that Al Hamaama seemed pleased as she accepted it with - as you can see in the photograph - her customary aplomb and dignity!
