REPORT MADE AT 2009 WAHO CONFERENCE

I am Dr. Abdelwahab Amira, Registrar for the Emirates Arabian Horse Society. My co-delegate is Mr. Essam Abdulla, Director General of the Society.

Our latest stud book is Volume 20. A total of 8,600 horses are already registered up to now, we register about 500 foals each year. They have to be DNA parentage verified and microchipped before registration. Regarding imports and exports, in the past 2 years we have seen about 200 importations and about 200 exportations. Our Arabian horses are used for a variety of different purposes, such as showing, racing and endurance. We allow both Artificial Insemination and Embryo Transfer, the use of imported and exported semen, and multiple foals per mare per year by Embryo Transfer. Thank you.

REPORT MADE AT 2007 WAHO CONFERENCE: The number of Arabian horses in the United Arab Emirates has increased greatly since the creation of the Emirates Arabian Horse Society. Our first stud book was published in 1990, including 313 horses. Today, 7,400 horses have been registered up to April 2007. The number of owners and breeders is growing year by year, to exceed 600.

A database is maintained for registrations. Our current stud book is Volume 17, volume 18 is in its final stages of preparation. All foals must be parent verified by DNA and micro-chipped before registration. 476 foals were registered in 2006. Artificial Insemination and Embryo Transfer are allowed. Import and export procedures are in compliance with WAHO rules. 236 horses were imported in 2006, and 186 were exported.

Many different pedigrees exist in UAE, these horses are used for breeding, showing, racing and long distance riding. In 2006 we had 158 races, 29 endurance events and 6 horse shows.
