Kuwait has been a full Registering Authority Member of WAHO since 1996, we have published 3 volumes of our stud book so far, the 4th volume will be due in 2008. In 2006 there were an estimated 700 living registered purebred Arabian horses. In that year we registered 69 foals, with 26 active breeding stallions and 90 broodmares. We had 87 imports from Bahrain, Egypt, Germany, Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar, Syria, UAE and UK. There were 12 exports, to Egypt and Saudi Arabia. We used blood-typing since we started, in 2005 we moved to DNA. Parent verification is mandatory before first registration. We have no shows yet, but we have 7 flat races in the season. We allow Artificial Insemination and the use of transported semen, and Embryo transfer.

In 2007 Kuwait registered 88 new foals. They also recorded 19 exports, and a large total of 135 imports. Racing increased to 11 from 7, and an endurance ride was also held. Arabins are also popular for general pleasure riding and equitation. There are now an estimated 1,000 living Arabians in Kuwait.

2007 TROPHY REPORT
LATIEFA Grey mare, 1993. (Hamasa Khazzan – Hamasa Tarifa). Bred and owned by The Arabian Horse Centre (Bait Al Arab), Kuwait State Stud. Strain: Dahmeh Shahwanieh (El Dahma, 1879).
The Kuwait Arabian Horse Registry is pleased to announce they have awarded their 2007 WAHO Trophy to the outstanding broodmare mare Latiefa. This beautiful grey mare, bred in Kuwait from parents both imported from Hamasa Stud in Germany, is from the Sabah/Bukra line of the Dahmeh Shahwanieh strain, via Menha through Nagwa to Bint Bukra (EAO). Latiefa has succeeded in generating her own dynasty and so far has contributed nine foals (four colts and five fillies) to the breeding program of Bait Al Arab Kuwait State Stud.
Her daughters, Lamia Elkuwait and Layali Elkuwait, both by Ansata Hejazi, as well as Layla Elkuwait by Adnan, have already proven to be of great value as broodmares. Lamia delivered a lovely filly in December 2007 by Sinan al Rayyan. Her full sister Layali has already produced two daughters, a two year old filly by Ansata Osiron and a yearling filly by Al Kidir. Layla El Kuwait has a filly by Ansata Hejazi which is a very nice representative of this significant family. Latiefa had given birth to another filly this year by Sinan Al Rayyan. This filly has the similarity of her mother with some spice given from her exotic sire.
Latiefa also produced a promising colt by Ansata Sirius (chief sire of Bait Al Arab Kuwait State Stud), the three year old Ezz Elkuwait. He got the nicely dished head from his sire, is very elegant and matures very well. He is just broken in for riding and might be given a chance during the forthcoming breeding season. Latiefa is now in foal to Talal Al Mehri’s newly imported stallion from Germany, El Thay Mameluk, who stands at stud at Al Jazira Arabians.
Latiefa was honored with the WAHO Trophy for her important contribution to the Kuwait Arabian horse breeding programme. The Kuwait Arabian Horse Registry took the opportunity when the President of WAHO Dr. Hans Nagel was visiting Kuwait and asked him to be so kind and present the Trophy to members of the Arabian Horse Committee which is supervising Bait Al Arab, Kuwait State Stud. The Committee was represented by Mr. Abdullah Albraihi (Manager of Kuwait Arabian Horse Registry), Mr. Mohammed Al Marzouk (Ajmal Arabian Stud), and Mr. Mahmoud Al Zubaid (El Adeyat Arabians).
