MEMBER REPORT FROM COLOMBIA

The Associacion Colombiana de Criadores de Caballos Arabe published the second volume of their Stud Book in 2006, covering the period 1989-2004. 170 Arabians are registered in this volume. 62 horses were registered in Volume 1. Volume 3 will be published in 2009, there are now estimated to be nearly 300 Arabians in Colombia. In 2008 no horses were exported, but 22 were imported, mainly from USA and Argentina.

On average, 40 foals are registered each year, from approximately 50 broodmares and 15 active breeding stallions. All foals are parent verified by DNA and passports are issued. Microchipping is not yet used. Artificial Insemination and Embryo transfer are permitted.

The Association organizes 5 shows, and 4 endurance competitions each year. Pleasure riding and western riding are also popular activities.

2005 TROPHY REPORT
The Asociacion Colombiana de Criadores de Caballos Arabe have not awarded their 2005 WAHO Trophy as there were very few events available for Arabian horses in their country during that year. They will definitely award it for the first time in 2006.
